An introduction to the branches of Engineering


Some of the top engineering colleges in Pune or other cities offer a variety of branches that students can choose from in their engineering degrees. Engineering degrees can be usually pursued at both the bachelor's and master's levels. Engineering is one of the most in-demand fields of study of all time. In India alone, each year almost 15 lakh engineers graduate from college. Given the massive number, it is essential to choose a good branch as it sets one apart from the crowd. Here are few of the branches one can usually choose from:

1.Mechanical Engineering: This traditional branch has been offered in degrees for many years. It teaches students the fundamental principles of mechanical physics and the working of complex machines. One can pursue careers in several industries such as manufacturing, production design, systems management among several others.

2.Computer Engineering: This is one of the most recent and in-demand branches of engineering. Students learn various programming languages and are taught advanced software functions. They can be employed in several big software companies, such as Microsoft and Apple, and also work in other industries that are integrated with computer technology. This branch provides some of the highest paying jobs to candidates throughout the world.

3.Electronics and Electrical Engineering: It is the discipline of study that deals with the designing, developing and testing electrical equipment. They are employed in industries like communication services, manufacturing, equipment testing and computer system related services as well.

4.Civil Engineering: Civil engineering is the field of study that deals with the construction industry. It involves laying out plans for the construction of a certain structure, assessing its functionality and usability and finally, ensuring proper construction. Civil engineers can either be employed in companies or by the government and can also do freelance work on a contract basis.

5.Aerospace Engineering: Aerospace engineering is one reputed branch of study. Students are equipped with the knowledge of airplane designing and its technologies as well. This can include military as well as commercial airplane designs, and satellite technology as well. They can be either employed in the private or the government sector, and are offered lucrative salary packages.

Other than the above mentioned, many other branches like biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, automotive engineering, robotics engineering, and almost 40 more branches are available. One can pursue master's degrees from M.Tech colleges in Pune or other cities around the country as well. A master's degree not only gives you expertise in a certain industry but also exposes you to amazing new national and international opportunities.
